Part P when given it's full name is "Part P of the Building Regulations 2000" and was introduced in 2005. It is designed to ensure that electrical work carried out in domestic and light commercial properties by competent persons, is completed to a consistent standard and will be safe. These regulations form part of the law for both England and Wales.
A competent person is a company that has been approved by one of the Government's national Part P schemes, to ensure their work is safe, of a high standard and complies with building regulations. A Part P approved organisation can commence electrical installations without first having to inform the local building control authority. This saves both time and money for the customer. To be classed as a competent person within an approved company, each electrician needs to demonstrate that:
- Their work complies to the standard BS7671.
- They hold the relevant City and Guilds qualifications (or equivalent others).
- They are assessed annually to ensure standards are maintained.
ADJ Electrical Services are registered as Part P competent persons through NAPIT, who themselves are approved by the Government to register Part P competent persons. For more information about NAPIT please see their website
